Entertainment for the Braindeads "roadkill" as a vinyl-release
Worum geht es in diesem Projekt?
Far away from the massive and unresting sounds of electric guitars and pounding noises
of drums, Singer/Songwriter Julia Kotowski creates a small, intimate and especially
silent musical sphere that she fills with notes, lyrics and rhythm. She lets these outcomes
ripen slowly. Then, sound tracks are being arranged and ranked in longsome nights
and home appliances will be misused for special elements. There is a lot of tinkering
and pottering, but little sleep. All this takes place at home, in her bedroom, in front of her
Entertainment For The Braindead is based in the German city of Berlin. Julia did „audiovisual
Media-Studies“ at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne (KHM). Not only during
her studies, but also in her spare time, Julia engages in illustrations and a lot of handicrafts.
Under the pseudonym “Entertainment for the Braindead“, her third collection of
songs, thoughts and cumulative creativity, named “roadkill“, found its way to publication.
Since Julia does not want to constrain herself too much during forthcoming livegigs,
she, as a classical one-person-band, is also working with samplers. Generally, Julia is very
glad that she can finally present her songs live to an audience. In her opinion, music is
something that needs to be shared, just like someone who makes mixtapes and hands
Exactly this view on music brought Julia to us, the Netlabel Aaahh-records, on which her
third compilation “roadkill“ has been published under a Creative Commons Licence,
meaning it is freely available to everyone. “After all, music is not produced to earn money
with it, but to have fun“, says Julia – and we agree! But if someone does not only
want to listen to the music, but would like to own the whole work of art, then he or she
can help us funding a vinyl-release and get a copy of "roadkill".
Was sind die Ziele und wer die Zielgruppe?
We are aiming to collect enough money for a prefinanced vinyl-release.
We are grateful for every supporter.
For those of Julias fans (and those to become one) who love vinyl, we wanted to give them the possibility to pursue their collecting passion.
Eventually we see this kind of physical releasing as part of our work as a netlabel, which wouldn't bear fruits without your support.
Warum sollte man dieses Projekt unterstützen?
If you enjoy listening to the music of Julia digitally, but you want to hold the total work of art in your hands, you can support her now and get one of 500 vinyls send to you at home.
Support us with 20, 35, or 60 € and you can consider your support a preorder of the final product.
The rewards in detail you can see on the right-hand side of this page.
Was passiert mit dem Geld bei erfolgreicher Finanzierung?
The 5000 € huddle up as follows:
Because the individual sound-tracks need to be mixed in a certain way to put them on a vinyl, 500 € will be given to a professional Mastering-Engineer.
The plain production of 500 units will be 1600 €. This includes the booklet and the labels.
Add another 250 € for special shipping cartons, because we want them to arrive at yours in one piece.
The rest is shipping cost.
One Euro of every support we would like to donate to the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to back their efforts of reforestation.
Another Euro of your support we would like to use for financing our next aaahh-records workshop (check out last years workshop here: http://www.aaahh-records.net/denmaaahhrk-compilation/), in which we will bring together all artists of aaahh-records for one week to jam and record music.
The rest of the money will be given to Julia who will buy new equipment to record her next album, which again you can download for free since it will be creative commons licensed.
So as you can see, you are not only supporting this one release, but a couple of more projects which will result in even more music for you to get in the near future.
Wer steht hinter dem Projekt?
Entertainment for the Braindead is Julia Kotowski from Berlin and her music can be considered as acoustic, private, fragile and touching. Therefore she coined the term "acoustic dilettante post-something", which refers to her unique D.I.Y. attitude that goes all along in the process of creating her music.
To underline her very personal and introverted lyrics musically, Julia has collected, next to her own voice, her acoustic guitar and her ukelele, a whole palette of exceptional instruments, which were found in the kitchen. Thus, peppermills, jars and drawers can be recognized in her songs. But above all these floats her remarkable voice.
She has been releasing music under the pseudonym “Entertainment for the Braindead“(http://entertainmentforthebraindead.com/) for quite some time now. All of her music has been released under a creative commons license and is free to download and share for everyone(http://archive.org/search.php?query=entertainment%20for%20the%20braindead).
aaahh records – what is that?
We are a netlabel and we offer you free music.
aaahh was born in may 2008 in the german city of Bielefeld, grey pearl of
Westphalia. We started as a humble netlabel – something we still are, in a
way – but everything has grown a little less humble and a little less netlabelish
over the past years. For more detailed info about aaahh click here: http://www.aaahh-records.net/about-2/
