Africa Fashion Day Berlin

Using the framework of an exclusive event with international character, esprit and African flair, the Africa Fashion Day Berlin intents to build a network for fashion designers with an African, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-American background. This includes designers living in the Europe.
The first event is planned to take place in the centre of Berlin in January 2013, simultaneously with the Berlin fashion week. We are in preparation for runway shows, live acts, and a film and photo exhibition.

What is this project all about?

In cooperation with creative minds initiator Beatrace Oola has developed a concept about the theme of African Fashion in Germany. It is a vision of us, that we would like to realize with your support.

“Africa Fashion Day Berlin” is to be understood as the basis for a new “Next Generation”.
African Fashion mirrors cultural roots and modern urban life simultaneously. In a society with an increasing clientele, that is aware and proud of its international background, a suitable fashion is missing.

"Africa Fashion Day Berlin" is supposed to bring together interested, aware people from Germany and the rest of the world, that love Lifestyle. Sustainability and Fairtrade do play an integral part for us, as a global and modern world without fair trade in it is unimaginable. It is our goal to unite the European and the African Fashion economy equally together.

The network of the "Africa Fashion Day Berlin" is also supposed to contribute to bring artistic works such as photography, film, and fashion together. We want to show how much art can be seen as a tool for crossing frontiers. Because art forms like photography and film are an interface to fashion.

An event like “Africa Fashion Day Berlin” is without a doubt important for Berlin. The city
has a rich cultural diversity, which we consider impressive. Berlin is known worldwide, but
yet African glamour is missing. With this event, an international character is automatically given, with which we want to position ourselves from the middle of Berlin in Germany.

African Fashion is not only the expression of a self-confident, sophisticated, and cosmopolitan generation. More than just decorative Tribal Art, it is an eye catcher of a changing modern world. An important fundamental idea for us is not only to watch out for new innovations and respond to such. Old traditions shall not be lost within all the new inventions during today's time and have to be taken along into the future - in a new future oriented layout.

This is our vision for the "Africa Fashion Day Berlin", that we are trying to realize right now with a lot of pioneering work. We are supported already by Sara Nuru, Cosma Shiva Hagen, Samy Deluxe, Max Herre, Cassandra Steen, and Daisy Dee, amongst others.

And hopefully soon by you as well!

What is project goal and who is the project for?

Our goals are:
- Increase the name recognition of designers and artists with an African background
- Enrich the fashion market with new influences
- Connect fair-trade and quality nonreversible
- Build a Network for design and trade
- Kick-off for a global partnership

Our target group for the "Africa Fashion Day Berlin" is including everyone, that is interested in fashion and lifestyle. In addition, there are of course further groups, such as fashionistas worldwide, fashion designers, photographers, stylists, musicians, artists, creative and innovative people, that want to support a future oriented idea in a coalescing world.

Why should you support this project?

We believe, that it is time for a project like Africa Fashion Day Berlin. The Next Generation needs room in which it can enjoy its fashion diversity. With our network Africa Fashion Day Berlin, there will be a new interplay of the global fashion scene created, and this has to be discovered.

We want to establish the young and new fashion scene with designers of African heritage, by giving them a chance to present themselves on our network Africa Fashion Day Berlin, in order to increase their brand awareness.

Africa Fashion Day Berlin is a unique project in Germany, and has never existed in this framework before. In addition, it is a long-term future oriented project.
Also, the whole AFDB Team has been working non-paid for months and only because of their believe in the project.

Why should you not support this?

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

When successfully financed, the money with be used for the realization of "Africa Fashion Day Berlin" in January 2013. That means production costs will be covered with the collected money, like rent of equipment, location lease, designer scouting, model scouting, PR work, promotion activities, personnel costs, and so on.

There is a lot summing up, that we cannot cover and realize without your support!

Who are the people behind the project?

Behind the project is the initiator Beatrace Oola, who is working on her project of the heart since last year. Beatrace has a diploma in Film and Television Management and works as a stylist in a renown agency for trade advertising and photography. Beatrace is supported by a professional creative team from areas such as media production, graphics, web design, camera, photography, and public relations, that stand behind the idea of "Africa Fashion Day Berlin" out of pure believe in the project.
